Commercial Underwriter
Location: Hybrid (2 days/week onsite in Stamford)
A dynamic opportunity is available with a fast-growing insurance provider specializing in small commercial business coverage. This role is ideal for a motivated underwriting professional who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional service and risk evaluation for small business clients.
Position Overview:
The Underwriter will play a key role in supporting the sales team by assessing risk, evaluating underwriting submissions, and ensuring the quality and profitability of commercial insurance products. This includes General Liability, Property, Workers Compensation, and Commercial Auto coverage. The ideal candidate is adaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a hybrid setting with a strong digital focus.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform underwriting functions including referral reviews, post-bind assessments, endorsements, rewrites, and cancellations.
• Analyze risk exposures to ensure alignment with underwriting guidelines and profitability targets.
• Collaborate with internal teams to support business growth and enhance customer satisfaction.
• Assist with customer service tasks such as billing issue resolution, reporting, and responding to inquiries.
• Support cross-channel quoting and purchasing processes to ensure a seamless customer experience.
• Adapt to changes in technology, underwriting standards, compliance requirements, and business strategies.
• Handle premium audit communications and documentation.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 2 years of experience in commercial property and casualty underwriting.
• Strong background in small commercial lines including GL, Property, Workers Compensation, and Commercial Auto preferred, but not required.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage ambiguity.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Bachelor's degree required.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
